For many years, I assumed that being “slim” meant I was healthy.
That’s when I haven’t realized that looking healthy doesn’t automatically mean that I am being healthy.
Even the people around me believe in that philosophy.
For some, being healthy means you engage in any of these things:
- Eating healthy meals.
- Avoid vices.
- Exercise a lot.
- Drink more water.
- Sleep more.
- No sugary treats.
But those are just habits that may contribute to a healthy body.
Without maintaining a healthy lifestyle, better wellness is not yet fully achieved.
Most of the mentioned habits above are not always my thing.
I consume sugary products, sleep less than 7 hours, and don’t exercise much.
Those contributed to the sedentary lifestyle I have now, making great wellness a challenging thing for me to achieve.
I thought that by doing any of the healthy habits, I could slowly become healthy as well.
That was wrong thinking.
What I did was to slowly turn things around by considering a holistic approach to becoming healthy.
Through that mindset, I changed my lifestyle to a healthier one.

Here are the small yet obvious habits that daily contribute to keeping your entire body healthy and in check:
Nuh, It’s Not About a Perfect Lifestyle
Let’s get this clear.
Achieving a perfect lifestyle doesn’t exist.
Even the lifestyle of every celebrity and royalty you’ve known.
Many of us believed that there was a perfect strategy to keep us healthy.
However, this is dependent on your daily habits, which can help you achieve a whole, healthy body.
Others achieve a healthy life by doing these daily habits:
- Woke up early
- Run for a few miles
- Make and drink healthy smoothies
- Workout regularly
- Maintain all four habits
Most of these habits are what you may usually see on the internet.
But bear in mind that those clips you’ve seen are chasing perfection, something you didn’t want to achieve.
Being healthy doesn’t require perfection, only the exact traction.
The healthiest people usually do these daily habits:
- Someone who carries a water bottle.
- A neighbor who walks around the community after dinner.
- The guy who didn’t miss his check-up schedules.
- The person who eats in a picky way for health.
What do they have in common?
They chose a simple, healthy habit, without complicating things.
No need for overnight changes, just a healthy choice that impacts your health in a better way.
All of it is a matter of choice, from your brain to your bone health.
These are some of the daily habits you can choose to keep your body healthy:
Drink Warm Water After Waking Up
Drinking warm water after waking up is a normal response after several hours of deep sleep in the night.
Your hydration levels are low because your body keeps functioning while you’re sleeping.
A glass of warm water can help your body regain its needed hydration levels to begin your day.
However, remember that only one or two glasses of warm water are needed to be consumed.
Not more, not drops, and not even the coldest.
A hydrated body can help your body:
- Stabilizes body temperature
- Allow your organs to function well
- Strengthens your joints
- Enhances your mental concentration
But there are days when you don’t feel like drinking warm, plain water.
For some time, try adding fresh mint, cucumber, or lemon slices to your warm water.
Boost Your Brain’s Health and Function
Your brain doesn’t need a break; it works even during your sleeping period.
The organ is responsible for or has control over your:
- Emotions
- Movements
- Memory
- Thoughts
Your brain processes these things and is directly connected with your other vital organs.
Taking care of it is not just about maintaining its health; it’s about keeping it well-functioning.
Brain health is best supported by eating well-balanced meals that contain:
- protein
- healthy fats
- vitamins and minerals
- antioxidants,
- complex carbohydrates
- fiber
Also, your brain would appreciate you eating your breakfast each day.
It makes your body focused and less tired throughout the day.
Strengthening a Pumping Heart
Just like your brain, your heart also works nonstop.
It beats and pumps blood even if you’re resting.
One way to strengthen your heart health is to be physically active.
It can be in the form of:
- Regular exercise
- Daily walk
- Cleaning the house
- Going up and down the stairs
- Engage in sports
- Do some gardening tasks
- Jogging
- Any bodily movements
Experts prefer that we have regular physical activities because it has numerous benefits.
In your heart health alone, it can:
- Lower the cortisol levels
- Strengthen the heart (as an organ)
- Normalizes blood circulation
- Maintain normal blood pressure.
- Reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases.
You don’t have to be physically active throughout the day.
Only enough to keep your heart functioning and stable.
Eat More Nutritious Meals
Our food’s nutrition always defines us and our lifestyle.
Eating a nutritious meal is not just an imaginative or ideal meal.
It is what our body specifically needs.
Eating healthily and observing your food triggers are the best way to keep your meals nutritious and safe.
You need to consume foods that are abundant in:
- Fiber (much needed by the body)
- Vitamins and minerals
- Antioxidants
- Protein
- Healthy fats (except sunflower and avocado oil)
- Complex carbohydrates (learn to consume a few of these)
For an effective, healthy meal plan, you may consult a dietitian or food expert to help you guide with it.
Make Your Eyes Relaxed
Nowadays, people are getting dependent on screens because most of our activities are done in such.
- TV
- Smartphones
- Computers
- Laptops
- Other technological devices
Too much exposure to screens can cause damage or problems with your eye health.
Eyes need to rest for a specific time.
In doing so, lessen your exposure to blue screens at night.
Another strategy to give your eyes a break is to follow the 20-20-20 rule.
That rule is all about letting your eyes look away from the screen every 20 minutes and set your focus about 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
Adjusting your device’s screen brightness and frequent blinking can also help you protect your eye health.
Cleaning Your Gums and Teeth
Brushing at least twice a day, flossing, and regular dental checkups are ways to keep the gums and teeth clean.
By doing so, your entire mouth becomes healthy.
Doing this has a direct impact on your overall health.
A clean mouth makes you comfortable, confident, and health-conscious.
Although what you consume is highly critical to your health, keeping your gums and teeth tidy also helps.
Working Out for Those Muscles
Currently, our lifestyles are dependent on what we can do by just sitting and facing our devices.
That’s why some people prefer to lessen their screen time and hit some workout habits.
The goal of working out is to chisel the body and make those muscles more visible.
A simple workout can be a good habit as well if your goal is to maintain your fitness.
Any working-out habit you have is a great way to get:
- Flexible body
- Achieve a healthy posture
- Reduce neck stiffness
- Less pain when sitting for long periods.
- Keep your blood circulating.
- Maintain a healthy body weight.
Workout activities are not solely focused on building muscles, but also on effectively preventing yourself from having a sedentary lifestyle.
Handle Your Mental Health with Care
Your mental health is closely linked to your physical health.
When you are experiencing stress, your body often shows the impacts.
Handle your mental health like a glass; it must be taken care of by keeping it intact.
You can do it by:
- Listening to music
- Singing
- Venturing outside
- Taking a short walk
- Journaling
- Conversing with a friend
- Meditation
- Watching movies
- Making some laughs.
- Maintaining your peace of mind.
- Avoid engaging with too much negativity.
Although there are a lot of things we can do to keep our sanity, do them to ensure an improved emotional well-being.
Quality Rest is a Necessary Habit
Sleeping is not just resting for longer hours, but a recovery period for your body.
Your body seems like a turned-off system unit, but only your internal organs work continuously to maintain a balance.
Adults need at least 7 to 9 hours of sleep, depending on what makes them refreshed after waking up.
A consistent 9 hours of sleep can help you a lot.
Some of the benefits are:
- More focused
- Being productive.
- Less likely to yawn
- Feels fully charged
- More energetic
- Feels confident and prepared
- Has “always ready” vibes
- Locked to a better mood
However, maintaining a quality rest is heavily dependent on the environment of your sleeping area.
It must be comfortable and peaceful enough.
Get Some Vitamin D From Outdoors
Do you know that going outdoors is helpful?
It’s not just about becoming interactive or adventurous.
People need some time to stay outdoors because of the vitamin D, which can be received from sunlight exposure.
Vitamin D is a nutrient responsible for the following functions:
- Strengthen immunity levels
- Keep the bones healthy
- Provides nourishment for your skin.
However, this is applicable early in the morning or before 9 AM.
You may apply some sunscreen after a few hours of sun exposure.
This will help prevent your skin from getting burned.
Healthy Living is a Process
All of us must be aware that making progress towards healthy living requires a process to enjoy.
It may be challenging, but it is necessary.
Some of these habits are smaller efforts on our part, but it becomes significantly helpful when done every single day.
This is the challenge of being healthy, and not to appear healthy.
Because healthy living is a process and a humbling progress at the same time.
What Does it Cost to be Healthy?
You may have realized that the cost of being healthy is not the same as looking healthy.
When you hope to be healthy, the primary focus is on your overall health through daily lifestyle and choices.
Those who want to look healthy are solely focused on what makes them physically better.
In the long term, those who want to be healthy appear to be taking it slowly, but the results are surely favorable.
The cost of being healthy is far from what those people who look healthy advertise.
Not everything is all about physical health, considering that overall wellness has numerous factors to observe. Healthy habits may not yield instant success, but they will make sure you are in great condition.
