Looking for a refreshing, nutrient-packed smoothie to brighten your morning? This banana-strawberry smoothie is not just delicious, it’s a treat for your body and soul. Today I will share a banana-strawberry smoothie recipe, nicely sweetened and honey-decorated, bringing the nicest part of my morning each time. Also, you can try this smoothie in the early afternoon to refresh and finish the day with a positive attitude.
This interesting mix of colors and flavors also comes with many health benefits. There are more decorating options, but the decoration is also in the context of flavor and scent and not just appearance.
For this recipe, I use two ingredients that play a double role – taste and scent for one and decoration for another. So, let’s dive into it! :)
Honey
First, I’ll prepare a nice mix of 2 tablespoons of honey and a third of a cup of yogurt. The honey provides a lot of extra energy storage to be used later in the day. This natural remedy is a multi-benefit ingredient, bringing a spectrum of goodies to our bodies, from mouth and throat protection, antioxidant, anti-cough, antibacterial, and antifungal properties to boosting immunity, easing constipation, and promoting skin health.
Another thing is that honey – as my favorite natural sweetener – contributes an always recognizable sweet flavor that will just complement the fresh appeal of the yogurt. This mix alone tastes simply delicious. However, we can’t forget the healthy stuff yogurt provides in our banana-strawberry smoothie recipe.
Yogurt
Yogurt generally helps the digestive tract, mainly due to its probiotic content. While there will always be people advocating against consuming dairy products, the benefits of consuming yogurt – aside from the gut-friendly bacteria – can be noticed as more people include it in their daily diet. The recent and ongoing research only proves that yogurt bears a lot more healthy secrets waiting to be revealed.
Banana
Next, I decided to go with a banana since it’s a winner, both in combination with honey and yogurt. Or both, of course! Throw the banana in the mix, blend it thoroughly, and just taste a sample if you are not convinced. Bananas are beneficial in various ways, full of healthy nutrients prepared to nourish the body.
Rich in potassium, this amazing fruit helps regulate blood pressure and promotes a healthy heart rate. The magnesium content supports healthy bone development while protecting the heart at the same time. But I love bananas mostly because of their abundant fiber content. This is especially important for a healthy digestive tract and ease of bowel movement.
Pineapple
To brighten up the flavor of today’s banana-strawberry smoothie, once all of it is mushed nicely, proceed by adding 1/3 cup of chopped pineapple. I always repeat that I prefer using fresh ingredients, which also holds true here. Frozen pineapple is also a good choice if fresh is unavailable.
However, always remember, when buying frozen ingredients, always look for small, separated chunks instead of whole frozen blocks. When frozen chunks stick together, they usually come coated with extra ice, reducing the net weight and increasing the price. Just a tip.
Pineapple brings stunning amounts of vitamin C in today’s mush, adding to its immune-boosting properties. Abundant in various nutrients acting as antioxidants, pineapple helps prevent cancer development, boosts immunity, and even promotes healthy vision. Other than that, I love the exotic aftertaste pineapple always creates. This is the main reason I chose pineapple this time.
Strawberries
The ingredient that brings the main flavor comes last, mostly as a personal preference. I simply adore the bright red shade the strawberries give the smoothie. I love them and can’t get enough of them. Even just looking at them fills my stomach with some weird cuteness. They have been used traditionally as a remedy against throat infections, kidney stones, fever, and even some blood diseases. The number of health benefits of strawberries is constantly rising with each research study.
Pro tip: If you want to keep fresh strawberries longer, keep them in the hidden compartments of your refrigerator.
Cinnamon
As I mentioned before, the final ingredient of today’s banana-strawberry smoothie recipe plays a double purpose. Cinnamon is packed with antioxidants, bearing anti-heart disease and anti-inflammatory properties. There is also the anti-diabetic ability, regulating blood sugar levels quite effectively. There is a rumor that cinnamon can be very efficient against the HIV virus as well, but we’ll hold on to research results before claiming that for sure.
The other reason for using cinnamon today is more for decoration and scent. Sprinkle a little bit just before serving in order to top it with that recognizable aroma.
Honey decoration tip: Tilt the serving glass, or cup, on one side to pour honey right onto its inner walls. Start rotating the serving cup as you pour honey slowly on the inner walls, and include your creativity to make interesting lines that will look artistic from the outside.
